Wiring Dcc

Last 100 years than the methods of control electric trains have been developed.
The first and simplest method is to use a simple transformation variable as introduced by Lionel in 1906 to reduce the alternating current [AC] voltage from the wall at a lower, safer value and allow the user to control the speed of a model electric train by changing the amount of AC power applied to the track. In 1920, Lionel included remote control reversing switches to allow the user to control the direction of the Train Model.
When Direct Current [DC] powered trains with permanent magnet motors have been introduced, a different standard was developed for more than two Train Tracks, where the direction of trains were controlled by the polarity of the DC track power applied to the track.
In late 1940 added Lionel a new concept of applying DC on top of the AC track voltage to turn on and off a board whistle by remote control. This concept of high-frequency transmission was introduced in the Lionel Electronic Train Control. This system supplied ten different signals that would control ten different remote control effects. The different high frequency signals were superimposed the standard AC power when selected buttons are pressed at the control center. Each remote engine or Railroad Car was equipped with a receiver which was tuned individual frequencies. When the correct high frequency signal was transmitted, the corresponding receiver would toggle or turn-on some remote effect.
These high frequency signals to increase the ability to remotely control various effects but were other problems. Transmission losses were usually high and it was extremely important for maintaining the track, the track joints and the wheels of the car or locomotive receiving extremely clean. However, the extra power cords to various parts of the track been used to prevent signal losses and placing capacitors across the track joints and adding inductors at the power and any accessory used assisted in reducing signal loss and to ensure that all components of the model train layout used correctly. All this additional equipment however added to the cost, the complexity and maintenance for the operator of the train model.
Model train manufacturers have, over the years, introduced different methods of application high frequency signals to the Model Railroad to enhance the capability of remote control, including independent train control, which means that the operator can control the speed, direction and characteristics of a number of different engines all on the same section of track powered. With most DC and AC systems however, the biggest problem is that there are only a limited number of remote control signals possible and their application is slow modern digital standard.
Application of digital signals using the remote to carry digital signals to decoders in the engine for digital command control of locomotives and other accessories.
Digital Command Control (DCC) is a method to control individual engines, rail cars and accessories by transmitting digital remote control signals along the track On-board digital receivers and decoders in locomotives, wagons and other rolling stock and accessories.
DCC has been around since 1970 but had not received the acceptance level because of the limited technology at the time and the difficulty and expense of installing receivers in each engine. With developments in digital technology, these problems have decreased and over the last ten to fifteen years major model train manufacturers have produced different versions of DCC. So many that unfortunately customers have been confused about which system is better.
Fortunately, in recent times, the National Model Railroad Association [NMRA] has established a preferred method of transmission and reception of transmissions on digital model train layout, based on the Lenz system developed in Germany and is recognized as the accepted standard for DCC.

Wiring (Paperback) $40.04 This book will have several parts. The first part of the book will be aimed at `the curious` reader, and will contain the history of Wiring, a general introduction to electronics, micro controllers, programming and provide a context to the reader regarding why the Wiring is, what we aim to become, and how the reader can be part of the project. The next part is a self-educational `from zero to hero` part. This part targets the reader as `the student` and will be written heavily in first-person plural to get a sense of collaboration and creative exploration. The reader will learn the basic structure and syntax of a c++ program, and become familiar with the Wiring API as well as getting a feel for how to use libraries and connect various sensors and actuators to the Wiring board (which means some basic electricity knowledge will be taught as well. V=IR anyone?). |
