Steam Engines
When the idea of a means of personal transportation was developed first, the inventors looked at what was familiar rather than trying to create something new, at least initially. Towards the beginning of the era of personal transportation in the late 19th century, the main vehicle for food – such as locomotives train — was steam. And 'This was the method that the ancestors of the machine explored, and surprisingly enough, it worked.
Auto steam fed by an external combustion engine, ie the fuel is burned away from the engine. The machine has a modern internal combustion engine, that about twice as efficient as the steam version. Yet in the past, the steam cars were popular in the modern world you remember, so they must have done something right. In 1902, cars Steam outnumbered all other types of cars such as the United States 485 909 new registrations of cars were powered by steam. The main reason for this is that cars do not need to steam starting hand, a dangerous exercise, which could break the wrist, if done incorrectly. With the invention of the electric starter, the glorious period of the steam engine, such as personnel, civilian vehicle was over, not 30 years since it was started.
Still, with oil at a premium, modern minds are back at the thought of steam vehicles for personal transport. Automobile engines steam power by burning fuel, the water heated in a boiler. This created steam that drove pistons a crankshaft which would then turn the wheels. The method is relatively simple compared to some car engines modern, but had its problems. The sheer weight and space needed to keep the engine almost immediately rendered useless for a small family vehicle. Yet this was several hundred years ago – the new millennium could provide the solution to what should be a simple problem?
The answer, quite simply, is no. While modern engineering can avoid many problems that were previously regarded as no solution, can not defy mathematical fact. To create the necessary amount steam to power a vehicle for every kind of validity to any kind of speed, you need a big external combustion engine. This alone – Before passengers, the seats, design and controls are still considered – makes each car can sit in extremely heavy, which in turn makes the engine must work harder. This is a classic Catch-22.
There is also the issue of start-ups, which in a steam engine is a kind of problem. The engine can take a long time to produce steam to power the motor, which in the modern world only by turning a key and press a button and create immediate energy seem boring in the extreme.
Thus, while the steam cars would be better for the environment because of their lack of emissions, the idea is generally not been returned. Concentration on hybrid and electric cars, whose problems seem to be resolved more quickly than their counterparts steam and more acceptable to the market in general. Yet, the power Steam is still viable and does work, which means you can never say his role in history is never completely finished.
