Road Rage, we all heard the term. Some of us, if we're completely honest, you may also blame ourselves. Sounding the horn, making gestures or cutting in front another driver. All are considered examples of Road Rage. Road Rage is rarely out of the news. In a recent incident in California, a man was beaten unconscious with a piece metal pipe after a confrontation. The Department of Transport estimates that nationally, about 66% of all accidents are at least partly caused by driving aggressive.
But how do you recognize Road Rage and what you can do to prevent it? Road Rage The term was coined by the media, but the doctors have in fact a Another name for the condition. Intermittent Explosive Disorder, as it is officially known, affects about 16 million people in the United States on a regular basis.
Symptoms: anger and impatience – often appear during childhood and many sufferers have drug or alcohol problems or other emotional problems that can lead to Road Rage. If you the type of person who could benefit from anger management classes. It may be likely to suffer Road Rage.
Men are also more likely to suffer from road rage than women and to actively seek a confrontation with another driver. Some surveys indicate that drivers see American Road Rage as a problem more seriously by drunk driving.
A comprehensive study was recently undertaken by Auto Vantage, club cars based Connecticut, to determine which parts of the country immediately mostly from road rage. Perhaps not surprisingly, the largest city in the country have more road rage: Miami, (which was the highest) in New York, Boston, Washington DC and Los Angeles.
But surprisingly, the places with the lowest amount of road accidents are the rage all the cities rather large too. The survey found that less aggressive drivers found on the streets of Dallas, St. Louis, Seattle, Pittsburgh and Portland, Oregon. Just like you can handle with road rage, from others and yourself?
First, try to drive safely and courteously themselves. Avoid speeding, switching lanes at the last minutes and always use the indicator at the appropriate time. Do not block the lane. This is actually a law in 20 states, but should still be a second nature.
Reduce your chance of road rage always leave enough time to reach your destination. Check your local traffic conditions, where possible. An increase in traffic congestion, which is largely beyond our control, is a factor that contributes to a large number of accident Road Rage.
Not drive If you are angry or depressed. Do not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A little 'surveys suggest that about 80% of motorists are angry while driving. However, even those drivers who are normally mild can succumb to road rage, if there is something to trigger the discount.
Try to use sparingly the horn while driving. It should be used to communicate and not to "punish". If you are using for the dazzling lights, you should switch them off when not is oncoming traffic. Do not listen to music at a volume that could annoy other drivers. Keep other activities to a minimum while driving, such as use cell phone, read a map or eating and drinking.
If another driver is driving aggressively, try to get out of their way – slowing down, if necessary. If someone behind of you is speeding, out of their lane if you can safely. Do not be stubborn and make a point to stay where you are. Try to avoid eye contact with an aggressive driver.
Efforts are being made on a larger scale as well. Several law enforcement agencies of the state are working with both The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to establish a number to call to report aggressive drivers. In the meanwhile, please report any incidents of road rage for the local police.
Many other states have several programs in place to address the problem. These measures include enforce the current laws are more strictly, legislative action and public information campaigns. Campaigns have included print and TV infomercials, flyers and posters highways.
But ultimately, it is for us all to help prevent Road Rage. Recognizing the signs in others and ourselves, we can significantly reduce the accidents and, perhaps, anger help save a life.
