The cemetery is unique in its kind in the world, Key Underwood Coon Dog Memorial, is the beaten path 7 to the west of Tuscumbia, AL. Here, in a small grassy meadow is the last home to more than 200 coon dogs from all faith across the United States.

Who started the cemetery and why, you might ask. Labor Day September 4, 1937 Key Underwood said goodbye to its legendary coon dog, Troop. For 15 years they were friends and hunted together. The burial spot was a hunting camp, where coon hunters from all over came to tell tales, chewing tobacco and compare Coon dogs. Troop said the camp and it was right that he spend eternity there.

Troops was special he was the best in the region. It 'was said to be â € œcold nose, â € to be able to follow Coon cool tracks to become cool. Has never Coons left a trail until they lined him.

E 'wasnâ € ™ t long after the troops had deposed that other hunters began to bring favorite dog to be buried in the cemetery. Even Ralston Purinaâ € ™ s Dog of the Year in 1984, was buried here, Hunters Famous Amos.

Among the dead youâ € ™ ll find names like, Night Ranger, Patches, Bomma, Preacher, Bean Blossom and Smoky. Inscribed on the gravestones are not just names and dates, but as â € tributes œâ joy to hunt with, â € He wasnâ ™ € t the best, but he was the best I've ever had.â €

There are strict rules for burial in the cemetery only:

• The owner must declare that their dog is a dog authentic Coon.
• A witness should state that dog is buried is a coon dog
• The local coonhuntersâ € ™ organization must consider the Coonhound and declare that it is a raccoon dog.

When you ask why other dogs canâ € ™ t be buried here on Answers is a € You must not know much Coon hunters and their dogs, if you think that would contaminate this burial place of poodles and lap € dogs.â

Every Labor Day, the Tennessee Valley Coon Hunter € ™ s Association host a celebration at the cemetery. Entertainment includes music, dancing, food and a liar contest. Time: 1 â € "pm 4 Official Coon Dog T-shirts and camouflage hats available for purchase.
