Powered Diesel
There are only in the fifth month of the year and car manufacturers are already promoting their 2008 model year vehicles. The 2008 Ford Escape and its hybrid version have already been rendered and so are other models of cars from different manufacturers.
In the United States, as increases in gasoline prices, hybrid cars are gaining popularity. For 2008 model year, it is expected that car manufacturers will be introducing more hybrid vehicles as the demand for this type of automobiles increases. Another technology even if it is set to be unleashed in the United States and Canadian auto market in the form of clean diesel engines. Next year, it is expected that car manufacturers European and Japanese will be the introduction of diesel vehicles in that car markets. In Europe, the use of diesel engines are already popular, thanks to companies such as Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz. The success of diesel engines in the region is expected to supply diesel engines a better reputation in the United States.
For years after 1970 and 80s Americans were staying away from diesel engines. You may remember that this engine technology was introduced in 1970 in the United States. Unfortunately, the diesel engines of old are known for their emissions of black soot and, in some cases of poor reliability. Although newer diesel engines have overcome this problem with the use of technology filtering emissions better.
The Ford Super Duty already on the market boasts of having a powerful diesel engine with emissions similar to that of a gasoline engine. The Super Duty is one of the vehicles that can promote the use of cleaner diesel engines. The problems encountered in the use of bio-ethanol is also another reason given that will help spread the use of diesel cars.
Flex-fuel vehicles in the United States, which are designed to run on a combination of gasoline and bio-ethanol has recently been criticized because of the lack of fueling stations offering E85 – the alternative fuel composed of 15 percent gasoline and 85 percent bioethanol. In a recent study found that 99 percent of flex-fuel vehicles in the United States are actually using the conventional gasoline way beating The purpose of these vehicles should be environmentally friendly.
Already, European car manufacturers have expressed their intentions to release diesel vehicles the United States next year. Germany's Volkswagen sold diesel vehicles in the United States for decades and, currently, they upgrade their engines using a technology cleaner defined as the Motion Blue. The first model Volkswagen car, which will use clean diesel technology is the Jetta.
Another German automaker, which will introduce diesel vehicles in the United States next year is Mercedes Benz. Sport utility vehicles or SUVs, known as the favorite of buyers of American cars, Mercedes Benz will be what will be equipped with clean diesel engines. Already announced to be released in the U.S. market cars are diesel versions of the Class M, R-Class and GL-Class. One problem in the way in which the promotion of use of diesel engines in the United States is the availability of diesel fuel. Not more than 50 percent of all gas stations the country have diesel engines. Fortunately, however, the oil industry is clearly supporting the use of diesel vehicles. Marathon Petroleum Company recently allocated 3.2 billion U.S. dollars for the expansion of its refineries that are expected to increase the availability of diesel fuel in charging stations in all the United States.
Another problem faced by diesel vehicles in the country is consumer acceptance. Although new technologies have made diesel engines more cleaner than their ancestors, his reputation was severely tarnished. Gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles are popular among car buyers and would be something that diesel cars face. Furthermore, the use of advanced emission cleaning technology gives these diesel engines at a price almost equal to that of hybrid vehicles. In the end, it would be a matter preference, which will mark the success or lack of it for vehicles with diesel engines.
