But what about collectors looking for vintage model railroad trains to fill a hole in their collection, or the model railroader who needs a model that was not in production for years or decades?
Yes, there are some very nice models currently be today, but the reality is that production costs are so high that only a small part of what could be modeled is modeled currently.
The way it works in the world of model railways is that a producer gear for a given model railroad train, locomotive or car, and then produces what is, essentially, a limited edition. Gone are the days, seems that collectors and modellers can rely on a manufacturer to produce a model from year to year for an extended period of time.
The production costs of producers a line of model railway trains is high. These include research, making it dies, and the production systems of various paints and liveries to be a significant investment. In any time, a new model to meet the need and demand will be filled temporarily and then taper off. The response of manufacturers' to this is to stop production and switch to a new project.
