Logging Timberjack
The collection is a type of heavy machinery, which is employed in cut to length recording of cutting, instability, and the cutting of trees. Usually, a harvester is employed alongside a forward that will haul the logs and trees to a landing on the road.
Harvesters have been developed in Sweden and Finland, and today do almost all the killing business in these countries. They work better for less difficult terrain for the area clear cutting of forest. The steep hills or removing of individual trees, saws are usually preferred. In the Nordic countries, small and agile harvesters are used for thinning and manual cutting is used only in conditions extreme self-employed or owners of forest or wooded area.
Major producers of harvesters are Timberjack (which is owned by John Deere) and Valmet, which is owned by Komatsu.
Normally, harvesters are built on a robust, all-terrain, which can be either wheeled or tracked. Sometimes the vehicle may be articulated to provide tight turning around obstacles. A diesel engine will power both the vehicle and the harvesting mechanism through a hydraulic drive.
An articulated boom which is similar to that of an excavator, will come out of the vehicle to bring the head of the collection. There are also some reapers trade that are adaptations of excavators with a head the new collection, while others are purpose built vehicles.
The head usually collected may consist by:
1. A chainsaw to cut the tree at the base and also to cut to length. The saw is hydraulically powered, rather than using a motor 2 times a portable version. It offers a more robust chain and an output power greater than any video made by man.
2. Two curves de-knives limbing that can reach around the trunk to remove branches.
3. Two feed rollers to reach out and grasp the tree. The wheels pivot as well as allowing the tree to be embraced by the head of the collection, and pivot together to hug the tree tight. 4. Another two curved knives for de-limbing.
All this is controlled by an operator who sits in the cab of the vehicle. Control computer is used to simplify mechanical movements and maintain the length and diameter of trees that were cut.
The length is calculated by counting the rotations of the wheels grip. The diameter is calculated from the pivot angle of the wheels that grip hug the tree.
Harvesters are normally available for cutting trees up to 900 mm in diameter, built on vehicles weighing up to 20 tonnes, with a boom that reaches up to a radius of 10m. The largest, most heavy vehicles do more damage to the forest, although a longer reach will help by allowing more trees to be harvested with less movement required by the vehicle.
