New Concept of Green & energy efficient lighting – LED
LEDs are solid state semiconductor devices that convert electricity directly light.
Thermal sources of light such as flames, incandescent filaments emit light when heated, or by chemical reaction (flames) or electrical heating (filament lamps). LED "lead generation cold light of high efficiency, because most of the energy radiates within the visible spectrum.
Other common high efficiency light sources such as fluorescent lamps and electro luminescence, also produce light without much thermal radiation outside the visible spectrum.
Since LEDs are solid state devices, can be extremely small and durable; also provide lamp life than other sources.
Light is generated inside the chip, a solid crystal material, when current flows through the junctions of different material compositions.
An LED consists of two elements of processed material called P-type semiconductor and semiconductor-type N. These two elements are placed in direct contact, forming a region called the junction PN. The composition of different materials determines the wavelength and thus the color of light generated.
Types of LEDs looks like most others, but there are important differences. The LED has a transparent package, allowing visible or IR energy to pass through. Moreover, the LED has a large PN-junction area whose shape is tailored to the application. The device shown in Figure 1 is an AlGaInP LED because the semiconductor layers are aluminum (Al), gallium (Ga), indium (In) and phosphate (P).
Principal subjects LED
The main semiconductor materials used for the manufacture of LEDs are:
* And indium gallium nitride (InGaN) blue, green and ultraviolet high brightness LEDs
* Aluminum gallium indium phosphide (AlGaInP): yellow, orange and red LED high brightness
* Aluminum gallium arsenide (AlGaAs) red LED and infrared
* Gallium phosphide (GaP): yellow and green LEDs
Why LED?
The LEDs have a range of performance that is fast making the best lighting energy real efficient. Over the next few years, some aspects should change significantly.
Lifetime
As solid state light sources, LEDs have a very long and are usually very strong because of the absence of mechanical parts or moving.
Incandescent bulbs have a life expectancy of 1k to 5k hours while the LEDs of good quality are often cited to have a life of 50k hours, more than 5 years of continuous use. However it is important to understand that the performance of LEDs decreases with time, and this degradation is strongly influenced by factors such as operating current and temperature.
Low maintenance
The long duration LED reduces the need to replace lamps failed, and this can lead to significant financial savings and environmental regulations, particularly in maintenance, labor and recycling. This makes LED devices useful for installations in inaccessible places, but tasks such as cleaning the lamp is needed, therefore the sources of light can be replaced At the same time, denying the "maintenance" advantage low.
Efficiency
As a semiconductor device, LEDs are to high efficiency. Current technology is device that allows the execution of such a push to the limits that exceed that of standard lighting.

This lack of heat allows LED fixtures to be used in places where heat from conventional sources would cause a particular problem, such as illuminating food, textiles, artifacts, etc.
However, LEDs produce heat at junction within the semiconductor device and good thermal management must be used on high-power devices to maintain long life
Cost
In many applications, LEDs are expensive compared to other sources of light, measured by metrics such as "£-per-lumen".
LED manufacturers continue to work towards reducing production costs while at the same time increasing the light output of their devices.
However, the high initial cost of LED systems is offset by lower energy consumption, lower maintenance costs and other factors.
The initial cost may seem high, but consider the use of electricity that is saved, you pay for them.

Small factors shape
The LEDs are very small – typical high brightness LED chips measure 0.3 mm to 0.3 mm, while the high-power devices can be 1 mm x 1 mm or larger. There are many examples where the availability of small devices with high brightness have enabled significant market advancement. The obvious example is mobile phones, where blue, green and white LEDs are now used in most models of keyboards and back light LCD display (LCD).

Color
LEDs are available in a wide range of bright, saturated colors (Although the results vary across the spectrum) and white devices are also available. The modules containing different colored LEDs (typically red, green and blue or RGB) can be adapted to a wide range of colors, and easily available. The modules offer RGB a much wider range of colors of white LEDs or other traditional sources of white light, which is a particular advantage in applications such as backlighting liquid crystal displays (LCD).

LED characteristics change with time, temperature and current, and from device to device. RGB LEDs, the performance of different variations in color devices at different speeds. This can lead to changes in color and intensity of the lamp, and little reproducibility.
