When it comes to weather, many have ideas Model Railroad stops. Many, especially collectors, the feeling that change their rolling stock in any way compromise is the integrity and value. Others, looking to add some realism to their true collection, try to make their trains more like
that is really rolling down the tracks. While they may have just bought a shiny new Pennsy should still look as if seen better days in the last 50 years. To achieve this requires a lot of effort and skill, but with a little 'perseverance you can get some incredibly realistic-looking pieces.
Anyone who has ever seen a train can say that none of them are untouched, unless it exits the assembly line. As a matter of fact, most of them are enough plague. Weather, neglect and everyday wear will have their effects on the cars, so why should not the miniature version in your cellar reflect same conditions? I am not suggesting grab your selling expensive and intentionally damaging to appear worn inside I'm talking about taking some of your less expensive material stock and making it look a bit 'like the Real Thing.
I recommend starting with the cheapest car you can find and start from there. Find some boxcars and hoppers side is pretty easy to do. If you mess with these things, it will be only a couple of dollars, but the lessons will be invaluable. On the other hand, one might conclude with some cars really choice. I'm not going to get into airbrushing because it is a big mess, even though some have found it fantastic results. Instead I will focus on hand painting for added depth and realism. The first step is to get rid of that glossy shine. There are a number of companies producing hair spray opaque. Find a product you like and lightly spray your rolling stock for things down a bit 'boring. Do this in a well ventilated area or you will end to get a little 'stupid fumes.
Collect a lot of photos of the royal train to get an idea of how the different types of time machines. Note that some areas tend to rust more than others? Or the cars as some seem to have more damage from forklift? Weathering at random, the title is ok, but asks that realism true for some searches. Even better, if you can get some photos of the full-sized versions of the collection, you can practically duplicate each other.
Weathering requires delicacy, so you'll need to collect some items before continuing. It will take a few small brushes, short, stiff bristles. Grab some paints water-based acrylic colors in the ranges of red, brown, black and white. You're going to need these for the creation of rust. Collect some tincture of black leather and brown ink black, a dropper, Q-tips, alcohol, a soft bristle brush and some paper towels as well.
Make a mixture of alcohol and ink into a small bottle and use the dropper to wash your stock. Allow the mixture to penetrate all corners and crannies of your car. This will add some definition and depth as attracts the details. You can also use this mixture to create streaking effects of great results. Experiment with the mixture of finding the right black level to suit your needs. Adding a pinch of brown give the effect of rust, so use this, if appropriate, too.
As you go over your stock, remember to put the rust on exposed metal surfaces. Create strips of water, add a little 'dirt and grime, especially on the lower areas of the cars. Highlight the parts that stick out (such as rivets, walking on the roof and steps), with light colors, like brown or while. Darken areas that would normally be a shadow on trains real, as between the wheels. After each application, allow your piece to dry completely before adding second layer.
I mentioned the addition of some dirt and grime to the warehouse, this is where the color of skin is very useful. Mix some of your skin color in a jar with alcohol. There is a relationship exact use, regardless of the suite, the eye will be fine. Using one of your brushes with hard bristles, dip the brush in your pot and run under the line the roof of your car, leaving just drop down. Use a Q-tip to absorb any excess at the bottom. You can do this operation as many times as necessary to achieve the desired results. Just remember to allow each application to dry before applying the next.
These are just some of the basic techniques. With a little 'experiments, you will be able to use them to create some impressive results. Do not give up if it seems that you are found not are what you will, a little 'practice will take you there. If you think you're ready for some advanced techniques, there are some great resources at the library and on the Internet. A man named John Allen has written some things very subject back in the mid-1950. It may seem a bit 'dated, but the information is then spread equally important today. In any case, have fun, experiment and create a layout that you like.

Edward Hopper in Vermont (Hardcover) $50.02 Edward and Jo Hopper first discovered Vermont in 1927, making day trips from the Whitney Studio Club`s summer retreat for New York artists in Charlestown, New Hampshire. In 1935 and 1936 the Hoppers again traveled to Vermont, this time from their summer home in Cape Cod, in Edward`s continuing search for new places to paint. During these quests they identified the White River and what Edward considered to be Vermont`s "finest" river valley, and they returned there for longer visits in 1937 and 1938, boarding at Robert and Irene Slater`s Wagon Wheels farm in South Royalton. These "vacations" were a change from the usual tempo of their lives, a break from the studio-bound easels, canvas, and oils, an opportunity to paint something different, to be in a new place and paint en plein air. Over the course of Vermont sojourns, Edward Hopper produced some two dozen paintings, watercolors that are among the most distinctive of his regional works, strongly characterized by place. In this accessible volume, Bonnie Tocher Clause tells the story of the Hoppers` visits to Vermont, their stays on the Slater farm, and their introduction to farm life.
