Central Railroad

Where to live along the stops of the Metro North Railroad?
I can not find a place to live in Stamford (where I work), so I'm studying the possibility to live in New York along the stops of the Metro North Railroad as an alternative. I know Grand Central Station and the location of Harlem, all the other places? The safety and the cost is certainly problem.
Once you leave Harlem, you have a number of stops in the Bronx, which progressively get better (and more expensive) the farther you from the city.

Amador Central Railroad (Paperback) $16.98 Resting in the community park in Ione, California, is old No. 7, affectionately known as "Iron Ivan," the last steam engine that served on the Amador Central Railroad. At the southern edge of town, one can glimpse the rails it once rode. Built in 1904, the Amador Central Railroad–a 12-mile, standard-gauge short line that snakes its way through the Sierra Nevada foothills from Ione to Martell–served both passengers and freighters for a century until 2004. It was said to be the slowest line in California, with over 75 curves and a grade of four percent in some places. In 2010, Sierra Pacific Industries sold the railroad to a nonprofit consortium to preserve the historic line. |

The Michigan Central Railroad (Hardcover) $30.94 In pioneer America, the Michigan Central Railroad (MCRR) became the major route between east and west, linking older states and their restless populations to young cities like Detroit and Chicago, and to the wide open spaces beyond. Now, for the first time in book form, historian Nick Marsh systematically relates the colorful story of this legendary enterprise, drawing on numerous archival records, photographs, and artifacts. The MCRR story is a story of toil, triumph, and tragedy. Marsh includes chapters on the railroad`s construction, its conversion from a state-owned to a private enterprise, the sad ending to a Michigan farmers` rebellion, the involvement of William H. Vanderbilt, and the empire building of the visionary James F. Joy. Eagerly anticipated by many, the appearance of Marsh`s comprehensive account will bring joy to legions of rail fans, history buffs, and connoisseurs of Americana. |
