How do I find out the value of a Vintage Lionel Train Set?
I found in my (now deceased) fathers garage complete Lionel Train September Dice Die Cast Locomotive steam. Is there a model number 1492. Also has a contract that says Jersey Central Lines, Gondola w / containers, box cars that reads Erie Lockawana EL 9043, Red Hopper CN, Flat Car w / log and a galley. Even on the box says 27 gauge, what does this mean? Purchased in a period between 1970 and 1973. I have not put together yet, but plans to this week to see if it works yet. The instructions are eaten ….. seems a mouse is used to create a bed in the box. LOL! Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Model Railroading groups on if you care to check with them. I know that members of the 3 groups here in NM that is now preparing for the fair with their screens of trains. Check with your local fair and see if a group of living there, check the State Fair grounds to see if a group lives there. I mean that literally, "live" display in their buildings work set-up 24/7/365 days a year.

The Early Steam Locomotive $21.49 This story begins with James Watt the inventor which voluntarily created a separate condenser for steam engines. However it had been Richard Trevithick of England who was solely responsible for producing high-pressure steam through a smokestack. The initial setting takes place during 1829 near Liverpool at a historical site known as Rainhill. A competitive race was strategically won by the Rocket locomotive lucidly built by the aspiring George Stephenson and his ambitious son. During the earlier part of that nineteenth century internal improvements had played a major role in our country, and also for the coming of railroads. The monumental building of its Erie Canal in New York greatly contributed to these navigable rivers and steamboat vessels at this time. In fact there were many evident evolutions being rapidly unfolding for example air brake system, steel rails, electric telegraph as well as coal for supplying fuel. Dinning cars and sleeping cars were formally introduced by George Pullman and had certainly provided luxurious accommodations for the steam locomotive. Those public domain lands were vigorously brought to a more richer and prodigious development by its conglomerate railroads which had prudently expanded the acquisition of unfamiliar territories. An indispensable number of railroad charters were favorably issued by the State legislation in addition to land grants being actually permitted by the federal government. Moreover that quest of railroad achievement in the east was magnificently accomplished by the New York Central Railroad. Primarily the mighty and potent project of building a transcontinental railway across North America was successfully consummated as the IronHorse became popular and evolved from its origin. |

Iron & Steam: A History of the Locomotive and Railway Car Builders of Toronto $28.19 Nearly 150 years ago James Good transformed his burgeoning iron foundry at the corner of Yonge and Queen streets into the Toronto Locomotive Works. Within months the first railway engine built in British North America — the Toronto — was born, and over the next seven decades Toronto’s factories rolled out more than 220 steam and electric locomotives and hundreds of cars, not to mention giant Bucyrus steam shovels, turntables, bridges and streetcar trucks. The names of the customers who bought this equipment are now legendary: the Ontario, Simcoe and Huron Union; the Northern; the Buffalo, Brantford & Goderich; the Buffalo & Lake Huron; the Cobourg & Peterborough; the Grand Trunk; the Great Western; the Toronto, Grey & Bruce; the Toronto & Nipissing; the Canada Southern; the Canadian Pacific; the Canadian Northern; and others. Yet the six concerns responsible for this prodigious output are largely forgotten. Most were general iron founders like James Good’s Toronto Locomotive Works; Dickey, Neill & Company’s Soho Foundry; William Hamilton & Son’s St. Lawrence Foundry; and Canadian General Electric’s Canada Foundry Company, later known as Canadian Allis-Chalmers. McLean & Company’s Toronto Car Factory specialized in railway cars, as did the Canada Car & Manufacturing Company. The latter was a unique social and economic experiment that relied on convict labour from the Central Prison, an industrial reformatory opened in 1874. It was believed that learning a useful trade would enable criminals to earn a living in the community and make them less likely to return to crime. The story of this fascinating confluence of commerce, prison reform and politics is told in detail.
