Getting started is one of the most exciting phases of the model train hobby. Should take the train together throughout the home or settle for a single room? If you have opted for the whole home, please speak with your wife before you swing the bat.
It 'nice to dream big, but patience is often required before the dreams become reality. Most of us have to do with the reality of a limited amount of space, time and money. Adapt to these realities will help you make your own decisions in the first place, where to put the set and the amount of space to devote to it.
Another decision is the selection of a set of train brand. You should buy a Lionel model train set or go with another brand? Lionel is by far the leading brand, but also other brands such as Bachmann, Athearn, Hornby and others have been around a time too long and have many satisfied customers. If you are unsure, Lionel is a safe place to start.
So we have some momentum now? The subsequent decision to choose between two full trains or individual components. Most fans beginner start with two complete trains, while the railroad worst option for the purchase of individual components. Complete sets are cheaper and save time by shopping. The costs of buying more components and needs to gather more information before you buy. If you choose to go with the set, or components, it is recommended to be safe by buying well-known brands, like a Lionel Train Model. You could save a few dollars, with a lesser known brand, but could not get the desired quality.
Once you have all the components, start spreading around the table that will be used for the layout. Be sure to have all the pieces, if not, contact the hobby shop for directions. Most trains kit set includes an engine, car, track, and a power supply. Instructions for assembling and wiring are included in the package.
You'll need the right surface for the track the train model. Carpeting not working well. A simple wooden surface works best. The minimum recommended size layout is 5 'x 8' as this will provide sufficient space for the curve of the track. Polished wood works best, but if there are nodes can usually bend the track that surrounds them.

Once the wiring is complete, your engine Lionel model train track and connect several cars. Is that the wheels are properly aligned on the track. Plug in the power-pack and advance the gas slowly. If the train goes forward, it connected the wiring correctly. If the train goes backwards, disconnect the power-pack, move the cables and restart the train.
Run the train to ensure that all connections are set correctly. Try the train by running at different speeds, in some cases, you may need to increase the radius of the curve to avoid derailment. Before fixing tracking, make sure the layout is the way you want.
Now you're ready to enjoy your train set. As you gain experience, you can add songs, curves, hills, and interlocking convoys. Reversing sections of tracks is useful for backing up and disconnect the carriages of the train. Have fun!
