All Tin
A tin can luminary is a fun, easy project CRAFT for all ages. They are ideal for any type of vacation is limited only by your imagination! Is can transfer any simple shape on a tin box to create a beautiful candle holder for any occasion.
I chose to make luminaries for Christmas this year. You can choose any simple design to transfer onto your tin can. I used a favorite clip art program on my computer to look for easy Christmas designs to print. I chose a Christmas tree, a snowman, and a pair of gingerbread men.
Here's what you need to get started:
– Cans empty (cleaned and labels removed)
– Design is to transfer onto
– Hammer
– Large nail
– Tape
– Dish towel
And 'more easy to drill holes in the tin box, if frozen water at first. Fill the can with water, leaving 1 / 4 inch space at the top to the ice expand. Place in freezer until frozen. Your can be a little swelling 'in the bottom, whereas in the freezer, but after removing the ice can use the hammer to flatten the bottom of the can.
You might want to freeze a couple of cans then you think you need when you make a error and must start over.
After the ice has frozen, take the tin from the freezer and tape your design to the can. I used the packing tape, but you can also use tape. The tape can not stick to the cold, but you can wrap the tape all the way around the can so it will be followed paper.
If you do not have a design on paper, you can also trace a design on the can freehand with a permanent marker. You can even punch the design freehand drawing without first.
Lay the can on a folded dish towel so the towel will catch the ice chips try to escape. It will also be able to keep his job. Using the hammer and nails, tap holes around the edge of your drawing, trying to pierce evenly and not too close together. You want a simple design, so that when you see only the possible holes is to be able to tell what it is!
After the punching of holes, remove the paper and tape and admire your design. It 'really that easy! If you plan to hang the luminary, also punch two holes in the top of the can. You can do a wire handle (from a craft store) or a coat hanger wire.
Place the tin under the water running hot to melt the ice. Drain the can with a towel and a candle placed on the bottom. You will need a long lighter or match to light the candle.
To further decorate your tin can luminary, you can spray paint any color you want. Be creative!
This is a great family project. Just make sure that children have adult supervision while using the hammer and nails. Have fun!
